Concept

Goal pace

The average pace mathematically required to achieve a desired finish time.

Where it comes from

Divide the target finish time by the race distance to calculate the required average pace.

Why it is aspirational

The calculation describes the desired outcome, not whether current fitness, course, and conditions support it.

How to use it

Use goal pace to define a longer-term direction and checkpoints, then train from current capacity.

How to use it

Compare goal pace with recent race and workout evidence before using it in training.

Common misconception

Choosing a goal pace does not make it a currently sustainable race pace.
