For a beginner, easy effort is a repeatability test rather than a speed target.

Use breathing before numbers
Conversation and controlled breathing respond to hills, heat, fatigue, and daily condition. A watch can support the decision, but it should not overrule an obviously hard effort.
Slow down before form collapses
Fatigue can change posture, contact time, and coordination. Reduce pace or walk while movement still feels organized.
Finish with capacity left
A useful beginner session ends before exhaustion. Normal walking, sleep, and the next scheduled run should remain manageable.
