Concept
Talk test
A field check for exercise intensity based on whether you can speak comfortably while moving.
How it works
Speaking requires controlled breathing. When full sentences become difficult, exercise intensity has usually moved beyond easy aerobic effort.
Why it is useful
It adapts to heat, hills, fatigue, and inaccurate heart-rate estimates better than one fixed number.
How to use it
During an easy run, say a complete sentence without rushing the words or gasping immediately afterward.
How to use it
Check it several times during the run, especially after hills or when effort starts to drift.
Common misconception
Passing the talk test does not mean every run must feel effortless; it is a practical intensity check, not a medical test.
