Pace basics
What Is Target Pace?
Target pace is a planning number. It should help you make a session clearer, not force every run into a test.
Definition
Target pace is the pace you plan to hold for a workout, race, or training segment. It is usually written as time per kilometer or mile.
Where it comes from
A good target pace comes from recent fitness, distance, terrain, weather, and recovery, not only from a dream finish time.
Use a range
Beginners often do better with a pace range. A range leaves room for heat, hills, fatigue, and normal daily variation.
Reality checks
Compare target pace with breathing, heart rate, and how you feel the next day. If every target feels like racing, the target is too hard.
