Pace basics
What Is Race Pace?
Race pace is the pace you aim to sustain on race day. It is useful only when it matches the distance and your current preparation.
Definition
Race pace is the average pace needed to reach a finish time. It can be planned as even splits or adjusted for course difficulty.
Different from easy pace
Race pace is usually faster and more demanding than daily easy pace. Easy runs build the base that lets race pace become possible.
Choose conservatively
For a first race, start with a pace you can control. Running slightly too easy early is usually safer than rescuing a fast start.
Practice it briefly
Use short race-pace segments inside easy runs or workouts. Do not turn every run into a race-pace rehearsal.
