What Is a Recovery Run?

A recovery run is not a secret workout. It is a short, very easy run used only when it helps you feel better afterward.

Definition

A recovery run is shorter and easier than a normal easy run. It should finish with the body feeling looser, not more tired.

Who needs it

Many beginners do not need recovery runs yet. Rest, walking, sleep, and gentle mobility often work better early on.

How easy is easy

Use the slowest pace that still feels relaxed. Heart rate should stay low and conversation should be comfortable.

When to skip

Skip it if pain changes your stride, fatigue is heavy, sleep is poor, or you are trying to make up missed training.
